the horizontal garden11 July, 2011

So last night we 1) heard on the radio about storms with winds blowing up to 75 mph in the states north of us and 2) still had a garden in which our plants grew upwards.

During the night, a storm blew through, and we have little idea of how strong the wind was (I can’t imagine we were getting the winds Minnesota and Wisconsin were seeing), but when we woke up, there were branches down (none hitting anything important) and our garden looked very different:

We’ve finally got all our tomatoes staked. Maybe we need to stake the broccoli, too?

  • I haven’t been over to check, but I’m sure my garden looks like this too. When I bought tomato cages last year after a storm, the guy told me that he prefers to let his tomatoes get a bit beaten down as they always seem to be stronger after.

  • Sounds great, E, I desperately want to believe that. And that it applies to all of my other windblown plants. They’re not knocked-out, they’re just getting stronger.
