not chicks, hens.15 July, 2011

the hens Our chicks are all grown up!

Ok, not really. They won’t lay us eggs for another month (or two or three). But they’re making big strides. They’ve been looking more like hens for awhile, but now they’re acting more like hens, too. Like they cluck rather than peep.

And when we moved them into their chicken tractor, they still slept all in a pile together, just like when they were babies, despite the fact we’d built them an awesome coop upstairs with a beautiful branch for a roost. It took them a few weeks, and then suddenly they were sleeping upstairs (albeit still in a pile on the floor, not perched on the branch). And then one day last week, when closing them up for the night, three of the five of them were settled in up on the branch. And by now, all five of them have it figured out.

Good job, ladies. Now, get on that laying.
