paper snowflakesNot all couples would jump at the chance to work together for a living. But K and I think it’s fabulous.

K is the artist. I can offer her critiques and encouragement, but K is the mastermind and talent behind the work that ends up in our etsy shop. I take care of the non-artistic side, like mailing things out and answering customer questions.

There are some exceptions. I get to make the notebooks after she’s stenciled the panels that become their covers. I’m the one cutting and scoring and folding all the paper and stitching it together.

And there are occasional other odd jobs I can help with. Like K’s come up with a new notecard to make, which will be great for winter or holiday cards. And for the design, she needs tiny paper snowflakes to reference. So we spent our morning side by side, scissors going, both cutting out little snowflakes.

Stay tuned for the finished cards…

  • I still have some of your snowflakes with my winter decorations. I like to scatter them over my indoor plants.

  • Last year, we read Snowflake Bentley in class and checked out the original book of his photographs. His work is incredible.

  • Speaking of science and beauty, have you seen the INCREDIBLY giant book of the Elements? Also, we try to read as many Caldecott books as possible. Last year, we got to 31, I believe.

  • Shannon – If you mean this one: http://periodictable.com/theelements/
yes, I had it in my classroom, and it was awesome. As awesome as Caldecotts. Ok, maybe not quite.

  • YESsssssss. MORE AWESOME THAN CALDECOTTS. I have no clue why the book didn’t win a Siebert nonfiction award.
