One year later8 January, 2012

one

As of Friday, we’re celebrating having lived at Headquarters for one year.

I remember sleeping here our first night, in sleeping bags on the living room floor, feeling dwarfed by the silence and the darkness of the night out of reach of cities. I remember K having the stomach flu and our cats freaking out and the increasingly bad snowstorm all experienced in the car on the trip from Illinois out to to Iowa with all of our stuff. I remember the long months without a shower before we put one in. I remember feeling like I could never get used to cold Midwest winters again.

We’ve come a long way.

  • Congratulations on your first year! When we moved into this house, you and Sara both woke up crying with ear infections and we had to go to the emergency room because we didn’t have a doctor yet. My first night in West Lafayette when I was in kindergarten, I woke up with chicken pox and missed the next 2 weeks of school. Moving is dangerous stuff! Glad you all survived it so well.
