We have a resident Great Horned Owl at HQ*. We know because it makes sounds like this. Really loudly. In the middle of the night. As owls do, I suppose. This last week it has been hooting softly enough that it does not actually wake me up. Instead the incessant hooting becomes a part of my dreams. People talking in hoots. Trains and cats that hoot. Hooting that seems to come from everywhere and nowhere, until, at last, I am awake, and still, the hooting continues. Hence, I’ve had owls on my mind. And now, they can be on your computer. The March desktop calendar can be downloaded here.
* Actually, we’re beginning to think we have more than one, because some nights the hooting is a slightly different rhythm. Does anybody know, do individual birds have uniquely identifying calls?

We like the calendar. We have it on the computer. I’m glad it’s silent. I prefer mourning doves who are quiet while I’m sleeping.
