a month ahead (and a cahier winner)2 April, 2012

So if you live in the States, and in particular the middle to eastern half of the States, you already know how crazy warm it’s been this spring (for example, it is currently 90° outside, no joke). Looking back at our blog archives, we’re able to determine that we are almost precisely one month ahead of where we were last year in terms of the plant life at HQ.

A rundown of the things we’ve got blooming (now that the daffodils are all done) as pictured above: 1. tulips 2. peonies (almost there) 3. apple tree 4. lilacs (oh! the smell!) 5. dandelions 6. violets 7. peach trees (almost finished) 8. columbine (almost there) 9. strawberries 10. bonus asparagus (not flowering, just delicious).

So compare that to May 1st of last year. On the one hand, it makes me feel behind for spring planting. On the other hand, it is beautiful. Yay for spring!

**Also: We’ve randomly chosen a winner from all who voted on their favorite new cahier design since Friday, and commenter #9, Sonja, will be getting a Typewriter cahier from us. Congrats, and thanks to all of you who took part.**

  • Are the bees happy now with so much to choose from?

  • Bill – They are! It’s neat to watch them bringing pollen into the hive; there are so many different colors they’re collecting at the moment, from pale yellow to golden yellow to almost rusty orange.

  • I am jealous of your lilacs! We don’t have them down here and I miss them terribly!
