a different kind of nettles1 July, 2012

jellyfish

I don’t think I’ve formally complained about how hot it is on the blog yet. But it is hot. Too hot for my liking. Maybe no hotter than I should expect for our neck of the woods (do you still get to say that when there aren’t woods? and what is a neck of the woods anyway? if you’ve got answers, please comment).

I get pretty sluggish when the temps approach 100° F. And I start dreaming of watery things. And jellyfish in particular, who live in the water but get to drift around without effort (maybe I don’t feel sluggish, maybe I feel jellyish).

Here’s a couple of jellies I took a picture of last time I was at the zoo in Omaha (which happens to also have an aquarium). I feel even more affinity for them as they’re called sea nettles, like the stinging nettle weed that has plans of domination here at HQ.

And as a bonus, K has a desktop calendar ready for you to download for July, also with jellyfish. Except hers kind of look like Independence Day firecrackers. Get it here.

  • Just got home from Missouri where it was even hotter. We’ve had the house closed up for a week. Upstairs is too hot to occupy right now. Maybe we’ll sleep in the basement. Thanks for the jellyfish!
