a new camera15 August, 2012

Pentax point and shoot taken by Nikon digital SLR

This is not our new camera. This is the old mini point and shoot we’ve had for many many years, which has documented our road trips, our life at Headquarters here on this blog and all of our products on our Etsy site. I took its picture with our new camera.

Nikon digital SLR as taken by Pentax point and shoot

This is our new camera. It is a Nikon digital SLR given to us by my father and it seems to be capable of anything and everything. I took its picture with our old camera.

I’m just now starting to use it for our product photography and for taking pictures of everyday things. I have so much to learn from it. I’ve never taken a photography class, and while my background in physics makes some things like aperture settings fairly intuitive, there are plenty of other settings that are mystifying to me at this point. Between the camera’s manual and trial and error, I’m figuring out new things every time I pick it up.

I don’t expect I’ll ever be much of a Photographer, but I am excited about becoming someone who can take beautiful pictures, maybe even consistently.

  • Oh, fancy! My uncle keeps telling me I need to get a DSLR, but I’m not sure. You’ll have to let me know what you think after you’ve used it for a while. I know the internet will give you more information than you’ll ever need, but this site might be helpful as you get started: http://thepioneerwoman.com/photography/
Look through some of the archives for tutorials.
