About

Welcome! We’re K and A Alesandrini.

Back in January of 2011, we left our city life in Seattle and moved out to the prairie. We wanted to be outside more, own our own place, and take our lives in a different direction. Our new home is a 1895 farmhouse with three acres of land outside of Lewis, Iowa, population 444. We started gardening, keeping honeybees and chickens, and slowly working on our giant list of everything we’d like to improve about the house and outbuildings and land.

Some days we do miss the city, and some days we do dream of running off to tour around the Mediterranean on bicycles. But most days, we’re very happy right where we are.

We support ourselves by making illustrated paper goods and selling them in our online shop, littlealexander.etsy.com. We’re able to live on so little because we believe in living with less, that simpler lives are often happier lives, that using less means being aware of more. We are inspired by past generations that created what they needed out of what they had. We don’t mind being unconventional if it makes us happier and is more in line with our values.

If this blog isn’t already more than you could possibly want to know about us, we’re also obsessive listers, so you can read all about everything we cook, everywhere we go, and everything we read.

The relative solitude of our new life makes us excited to hear from new people, especially people living out their passions, whatever those may be.

Drop us a line,

K & A Alesandrini
